Please allow me to share a bit of very exciting news from Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida…

The future of hunger relief begins on Mercy DriveAugust 30, 2012 represented yet another milestone in Central Florida’s future hunger relief effort. Today, at 11:42 a.m., the first of seventy five concrete ‘tilt-walls’ was raised and hoisted into position at Second Harvest Food Bank’s future distribution center location. Situated at the corner of Mercy Drive and Old Winter Garden Road in Orlando, the new 100,000 square foot “Morgan & Morgan, P.A. Hunger Relief Center” will position the Food Bank to continue growing into the existing gap of hunger for many years to come.

No longer will our organization face the heart-wrenching task of having to turn away millions of pounds of nutritious food every year due to lack of adequate coolers, freezers, rack space, and other infrastructure. In fact, (are you ready for this?), it is conservatively estimated that the value of the food distributed through the new facility over the next twenty years will exceed $1.4 Billion. We hope that you are as thrilled about that fact as we are! The result will be more nutritious food… from more sources… for more people in need… than at any other time in our history.

Our deepest and heartfelt thanks to the generous individuals and groups who have allowed our expansion project to get this far through their caring commitment and philanthropy. Much remains to be accomplished, including more dollars left to raise for the capital campaign that is making the new capacity possible. We have no doubt, however, that with the continued support of a caring community we will achieve a successful conclusion for our neighbors in need. Thank you for being such an active part of that community!

If you are not familiar with our project, or the reasons for it, please take a few minutes to visit www.showmercynow.org. If you do, you’ll quickly learn why we say “The future of hunger relief begins on Mercy Drive.” Please consider what a difference your own contribution could make to this historic project, and most especially to the men, women, children, seniors, and others who will benefit from it for decades to come. Meaningful naming and dedication opportunities remain available at this time.

Gratefully yours,

Greg Higgerson
Vice-President, Development
