The Teen Nutrition Team

About the Program

The Teen Nutrition Team (TNT) internship provides participants the opportunity to learn about nutrition education, professional development, and apply those experiences in the field.

This 1-year long internship program is available to High School students participating in their second year of the School Market program. Two interns from each participating school are selected from the applicants. There are 2 phases: Summer and School Year

Complete an online application here or download a paper application here.

Applications are due by Sunday, May 13th.

PHASE 1, SUMMER:

The 10-week Summer Program begins in June 2018. Participants will meet at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida for 2 days each week.

Day 1 consists of training, professional development, and leadership opportunities.

Day 2 will take the training to the field and participants will visit Summer Food Sites or Food Pantries to share nutrition education with the community.

PHASE 2, SCHOOL YEAR:

Following the completion of Phase 1, TNT members will return to their respective schools in the Fall as the Nutrition Educators for their School Market program. The 2 participants from each school will work together as the Fresh Market Coordinators.

The Nutrition Educators assist with distributing fresh produce to their school once-a-month during the Fresh Market. On Fresh Market days, the Coordinators will use their nutrition education training to host a demo during the lunch hour to encourage Fresh Market participation and share nutrition education information with their friends and classmates.

Upon completion of the internship in May 2019, Teen Nutrition Team members will receive a certification of their achievements and the opportunity to share their experience with a network of professionals.
