Darden Foundation Community Kitchen

At Second Harvest Food Bank, we are working to close the gap on hunger every day.

One of the innovative ways we’re doing this is through our Darden Foundation Community Kitchen – a 2,000-square-foot commercial kitchen space designed as an integral part of Second Harvest’s holistic approach to fighting hunger and poverty.

In this dynamic space, the food bank offers:

  • a 14-week culinary training program focused on food service-based technical, life and employability skills training for adults
  • Catering for Good: an in-house full-service catering with affordable event space available for your next event, meeting, or seminar;
  • Meals for Good: a high-volume meal service program preparing and delivering fresh and nutritious meals to early childcare centers, children’s after school program, group homes, senior feeding programs and private and charter schools.
  • bulk and disaster relief food partnerships with state and community organizations.

In addition, we work closely with local growers and farmers to gather and transform surplus produce. The donated product is cooked, flash frozen, and ready to nourish those in need. We also offer Guest Chef Night Dinners featuring local and celebrity chefs.

Eating healthy does not have to be boring or expensive. Using items already in your pantry, you can create meals that are both satisfying and provide more of those nutrients our body's need. Whether you are looking for a Meatless Monday meal or something hearty and comforting, our Catering for Good and Nutrition team have a recipe for you. Best part, most of them are easy to customize with whatever else you might have in your kitchen!
