After purchasing their home in Florida, unexpected structural damages caused the Carter family to spend everything they had saved in order to keep a roof over their heads. The stress and uncertainty led to health issues for both Stephanie and her daughter. One challenge and setback after another finally came to a breaking point.
"I never envisioned myself needing to go to a food pantry and asking for help," says Stephanie, but one day she started searching online for a food bank to help feed her family.
Stephanie was able to visit a food pantry supported by Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida near her home. She was treated with dignity and respect as she selected the nutritious foods she knew her family needed. Everything from fresh produce to pantry staples was loaded into a shopping cart and into the back of her car.
"I can’t tell you how much I actually appreciate it. Because, looking in my refrigerator, I know I can at least provide when everything else seems unstable. So, thank you."
The Carter’s home has been repaired, Stephanie’s health has improved and her daughter is thriving at school. Thank you for being there for their family, and so many others, with the food and hope to rebuild their lives.
