School Partnerships Program

One of the largest gaps in childhood hunger in Central Florida is food resources for students outside of the school cafeteria. Without consistent access to the nutritious food they need to learn, grow and thrive, students are not able to focus in the classroom or reach their full potential.

The School Partnerships Program offers a student-centered, stigma-reducing approach to increasing access to nutritious food for students facing hunger. Students can choose from a variety of free snacks, nonperishable grocery items and fresh produce without question of need or eligibility.

In middle, high and post-secondary schools, student leaders plan, stock, operate and promote the program on their campuses. This provides opportunities for student growth and development while also reducing stigma.

Program Models

Each school community is unique. The School Partnerships Program works with elementary, middle, high and post-secondary schools to adapt program models to meet the needs of each school's physical space and student population.

Options may include:
  • School Market - A physical student-centered food pantry stocked with snacks and nonperishable groceries. May offer perishable items if refrigeration is available on site. Markets are open daily or weekly to meet the needs of the school.
  • Fresh Market - A monthly farmers market-style distribution of fresh produce. The often takes place at dismissal for students to select items to take home.
