Table SixtyA Collective Impact Approach to Address Senior Hunger

Table Sixty is an alliance of community leaders and visionary advocates committed to alleviating senior hunger through compassionate, collaborative and creative solutions.

The mission of the collective is to increase the number of healthy, food secure seniors in our community.  The vision of the group is to create a food secure future for Orange County seniors, improving their health and quality of life.

Table Sixty includes some of the following organizations;  AARP, Catholic Charities, Heart of Florida United Way, Jewish Family Services, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, Seniors First, Senior Resource Alliance, University of Central Florida and the Winter Park Health Foundation.

The organizations listed above, come together on a monthly basis to encourage awareness of senior issues, share their insight, ideas and provide resources to solve this problem today.

Food insecurity has been linked to increased risk for poor health outcomes across the life span. Among Seniors age 60 years or older, food insecurity is associated with adverse health conditions, including high blood pressure, limitation of daily living activities, chest pain, congestive heart failure, asthma, depression and more. Food-insecure seniors are 78% more likely to experience depression than food secure seniors.

To date, Table Sixty has completed several pilot projects, including mobile food drops with workshops and cooking demonstrations in Winter Park, Holden Heights and Old Baldwin Park.  They have been supported by key organizations focused on senior issues, partners in law enforcement, local government and transportation.
