Stories of Hope & Courage– Bobbi's Story

Meet Bobbi

Everybody needs a little help sometimes.

For the last 15 years, Bobbi has been a helping hand to her neighbors as they recover from car accidents or heal after a stroke. As a private nursing assistant, she is a friendly face when they need her the most. But today, she finds herself in need of a little help.

"I'm barely making it," Bobbi says. During the pandemic, she's been unable to provide in-home patient care. She started offering house cleaning services but the side business is inconsistent. Some months she falls behind on her bills.

One day she scrolled through social media between house cleaning jobs and came across a flyer for free food. The distribution was about to end, so she called the phone number on the flyer.

"It's not too late," said Queenie, one of the regular volunteers at CWC Ministry, one of Second Harvest Food Bank's feeding partners. "Come right now. We've got lots of meat and fresh produce today."

Bobbi hopped in her car and drove to the nearby church parking lot. Volunteers loaded bags of groceries into her car, including the meat and produce Queenie mentioned, plus beans, juice, nuts, dried fruit and canned tomatoes.

Bobbi was grateful for making that phone call, and for the help she received.

"I just want to say thank you. My cabinets are full now and I'm making split pea soup for dinner."
