CoronavirusPreparing for the Coronavirus

Second Harvest has seen a spike in the number of online searches on our online food finder tool. We've provided 2.5 million meals for families, kids and senionrs in our Central Florida community the past two weeks - this is a 100% increase in distribution. Thank you for providing hope to so many of our neighbors in need.

Coronavirus Update: March 31, 2020

Thanks to the generous support of our Central Florida community, Second Harvest is rapidly mobilizing to keep meals on the table for seniors, families and kids in our community.

Here's what you are making possible:

  • 6,000 meals a day for delivery to food deserts.
  • 40 mobile food drops providing 20,000 meals each.
  • 50,000 meals in two mega drive through food distributions.
  • Working with schools to supplement their feeding efforts.
  • Summer Feeding program for kids will be starting two months early.
  • Special mobile drops for seniors.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida continues to monitor developments regarding the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in our community. We're communicating daily with local emergency management services and Feeding America.

The safety of our staff, volunteers and feeding partners is very important. Additional steps for extra sanitation to keep our facility, food and people as safe as possible during this potential threat are being taken.

The loss of economic activity, especially in the tourism sector, is impacting thousands of hourly workers and their families. More will be impacted in the weeks ahead. We'll be working with our network of feeding partners to get food to those who need it most.

If you plan on volunteering and have traveled to an area of the country or world impacted by Coronavirus, or are experiencing any symptoms of illness, we ask that you do not volunteer at this time.   Please join us as a volunteer when you are symptom-free for 14 days after your return date.
