You Help Kids Be Kids This Summer

As the heat of summer approaches, so does a challenging time for many families in our community. Summer, a season that should be filled with joy and relaxation, becomes a stark contrast for too many kids, who face the harsh reality of losing access to the free or reduced-price meals provided at school. This gap becomes even more daunting as families face high costs, forcing tough choices between meals and other basic needs. It's a choice no parent should face, especially during what should be carefree months for children.

Your support this summer is more important than ever. Your generosity will help provide meals for families and children across Brevard, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Volusia counties. Through mobile distributions, partner pantries, and summer meal sites, nutritious meals are available for families and kids facing hunger. Together, we can transform summer from a time of worry to a season of joy for families and kids. By providing access to essential nutrition, you do more than provide meals. You are uplifting spirits and allowing kids to enjoy a summer filled with laughter and free from hunger.

A Mobile Mission

Summer Feeding Sites for Kids

Second Harvest's Summer Food Service program provides free meals for kids 18 and under, Monday through Friday, over the summer break. As part of the State of Florida's Summer Break Spot program, 65 locations distribute meals across Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties.

With the help of volunteers, wholesome meals are packaged at Mercy Kitchen and delivered daily to daycares, summer camps, parks, libraries, and other places children gather. Menus are designed to meet nutritional guidelines and taste-tested by kids. An emphasis is placed on whole grains, fresh fruit and vegetables, lean proteins, and dairy.

To find a Summer Break Spot site, visit www.summerbreakspot.org, call 2-1-1 or text FOODFL to 304-304.

A Mobile Response

Mobile food distributions are one of the quickest and most efficient ways to provide food to local kids and families. Two to three times each day, a Second Harvest truck loaded with fresh produce, frozen meat, bread, and nonperishable foods drives to rural communities, food deserts, or under-resourced communities, where volunteers help load bags and boxes of groceries into waiting cars.
