Become a Volunteer Captain

Second Harvest Food Bank's Volunteer Captain Program aims to engage already established volunteers to serve in a more leadership role while at the Food Bank.

Volunteer Captains help the food bank by extending the reach of our dedicated staff and allow us to impact a larger number of volunteers in our warehouse.

Captains typically arrive earlier than our scheduled volunteer shifts to help with set up and also stay longer to assist with breakdown. They are familiar with all of the volunteer projects and can often provide assistance and instructions to new volunteers. They are also trained on some of the food bank's software and warehousing equipment.

Commitments and Guidelines:

  • Be an established volunteer with SHFB and have at least 100 volunteer hours
  • Have helped out in all areas: sorting, production, etc.
  • Available at least once a week and be at least 18 years old
  • Attend a Food For Thought tour. Sign up at www.FeedHopeNow.org
  • Be flexible and help out in any of the areas that it is most needed
  • Be able to provide directions to our volunteers
  • Be able to utilize a manual pallet jack (not required, but definitely helpful)
