Mission: To create hope and nourish lives through a powerful hunger relief network, while multiplying the generosity of a caring community.
Why Start a Virtual Food Drive?
Right now, there are over 498,000 children, seniors and people of all ages facing hunger in our community: parents who want to be able to put a nutritious meal on the table for their family, seniors struggling to afford utilities and food, and children in our community who don’t have enough to eat.
It simply doesn’t have to be this way.
When we partner together, we can bring hope back into the homes of so many. In fact, for every $10 you raise, you will be helping us to provide 40 meals for families, seniors and children in Central Florida. Together, we can make sure this winter will be full of hope for those in need.
Who is Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida?
Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is a private, nonprofit organization that collects, stores and distributes donated food to more than 550 feeding partners in six Central Florida counties: Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia. Last year, with the help of numerous donors, volunteers and a caring, committed community, the food bank distributed nearly 58 million meals to partner programs such as food pantries, soup kitchens, women’s shelters, senior centers, day care centers and Kids Cafes.
In addition to distributing meals to our neighbors who need help, Second Harvest also transforms dozens of lives directly every year. Economically-challenged adults who graduate from our 16-week culinary training program are placed in ‘better than minimum wage’ jobs that set them and their families on a path to self-sustainability. Yet another important activity helps connect people who are eligible to receive SNAP food assistance benefits with the resources they need to access the program and get help.
Every $10 donated to Second Harvest Food Bank can provide 40 meals.
