Cans Over Candy is both a Virtual Fundraising and Food Collection Drive all in one!
A few years ago I wanted to do something in the Spooky Season that would let me have fun with my friends AND help neighbors facing hunger. After brainstorming with my mom and dad, and our friends at Second Harvest Food Bank where we've volunteered for years, Cans Over Candy was born.
What is Cans Over Candy?
Cans Over Candy is a door-to-door food drive where a volunteer collects canned goods, dry goods, baby supplies, etc. on Halloween. Neighbors, or coworkers, are given a "head's up" in the days and weeks prior to the holiday, so they can load up the participant with non-expired, non-perishable goods which they'll deliver to the food bank in the following week.
What if a Cans Over Candy Leader Would Prefer NOT To Go Door-to-Door?
Although Cans Over Candy started as an in-person food drive, it's not the only way to participate. Community volunteers are encouraged to start a Virtual Fund Drive, even if they're not collecting. The virtual component can stand alone, or be in conjunction with a physical drive. It's your choice!
What if Neighbors or Co-Workers Forget to Stock Up For the In-Person Drive?
Because not everyone will have time or the ability to shop for the food drive, the Virtual Food Drive component has been added to ensure everyone has an opportunity to give.
How Can You Help? By signing up to participate in Cans Over Candy and donating to our Virtual Food Drives, you can help provide healthy, nutritious meals for children and families facing hunger in our community. Every $10 provides 40 meals to those who need it most.
By giving a gift today today, you will go beyond providing meals. You will provide hope, relief and strength to so many.
Thank you.
